Accessibility

This site targets WCAG 2.2 level AA. We check as we build rather than auditing once at the end: colour contrast, focus order, and the no-dark-mode rule are enforced by automated tests that run on every change.

Muñozonian USA is run by volunteers. Accessibility is part of the build, not a later phase — if something here excludes you, that is a bug and we want to hear about it.

Every page is one landmarked document with a single main heading, a skip link to the content, and headings in order.

Everything works by keyboard: the section menus open with Enter or Space and close with Escape, the mobile menu is a native disclosure, and the photo carousel and gallery viewer are operated with Tab, Enter, and the arrow keys. Focus is always visible and returns where you left it.

Text meets a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 against its background, and the page stays usable when text is enlarged to 200%.

Motion respects your system setting: with reduced motion switched on, the carousel and photo backdrops hold still instead of animating.

Photographs that carry meaning have descriptive alternative text; photographs that are purely decorative are hidden from screen readers so they do not clutter the page.

Archive galleries currently carry one caption for the whole set rather than a description of each photograph. We are working through them with the board, and per-photo captions will follow.

Some images are scans of prints from the 1990s. They are low resolution and can be hard to read; where a date or a name matters, we put it in the caption text instead.

The map on our contact page is embedded from Google Maps, and we do not control how it behaves with assistive technology. The same address is written out as text directly above it.

Email us with the page address and what happened — for example, “the menu on the About page will not open with my keyboard”. It helps to know your browser and any assistive software you use, but tell us either way.

We will fix the problem where we can, and in the meantime we will give you the same information another way — by email, by phone, or by post.
